Basically excellent, 1.10.2010 Reviewer: Alan Birnbaum (Fresno, CA) The Braun 3-340 is my fourth electric razor from this manufacturer, and seems to be a further design refinement. More remotely, I used Norelcos, which are bulkier, and which are rather tedious to clean. Realistically, electric shavers last around five years, related mainly to the life of rechargeable batteries, which is about 250 cycles. Compared to my prior Braun 5885 this unit is quieter, and much quieter than a Shavetronics ST-100, costing about the same, that I used for a month or so. It comes with a snug-fitting cap to protect the main cutter, the side cutter and the on-off switch, which facilitates packing it for travel, probably better than a separate case adding bulk and weight. While I miss the original Braun design which did not require an outboard transformer, at least Braun uses a reasonably compact design, one much less bulky than the Shavetronics. Its sideburns trimmer also works nicely, better than the Shavetronics. This aspect, like the main cutter head, seems to have been redesigned since the 5885 version, and hopefully will not fail as did the one on my 5885. Otherwise initial shaving performance seems at least equal to the older model. The 3-340 is the most basic unit in the Braun 3 Series. The other models add other "features" including cleaning systems, of doubtful real value, despite adding 100% or more to the price. Cost of a replacement head is typical. While a replacement every 18 months is recommended, personally, I think that a yearly replacement is better. Even at that, the cost of such is only about 8 cents per day, The additional pro-rated cost of the shaver itself comes to perhaps 4 cents a day. Combined this remains far cheaper than using blades and shaving cream. Especially when it comes to cleaning! I have to admit that I didn't even realize that it was a wet shaver until after I bought it because I only shopped it on price. What a great surprise. I think my beard would be considered medium, and it does a nice job each and every day i shave with it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I would prefer it if it were in red.
